You Pick 'Em

Pick your own thornless blackberries at our blackberry farm! We provide the picking buckets and plastic bags to carry them home in. Nothing else is needed. Just bring yourself, family, and friends (and closed-toe shoes). A camera is a must if you have small children. We are located just north of Denton near Sanger, Texas and just a short jog north of Dallas/Ft. Worth. Come see us and provide your family a unique and healthy trip to a small farm! Ice water and picnic tables with shade are provided for an enjoyable family outing! Be sure to check out the "How to Dress " section in the right column. Wasps and bees love blackberries so be forewarned to those who are allergic to stings! The berries are best in the early morning so come early on Saturdays. We expect to have berries beginning early June and lasting until late July.

No reservations or memberships are needed and the lastest information on fruit availability will be posted by me on this website by 6 PM the evening before the scheduled picking date and updated live by 6 AM on Sat. mornings and by 4 PM on Tues. evenings. Check out our new Facebook page for even more information. Picking times for the 2012 season are not set yet, but Tuesday evenings from 6-8:00 PM and Saturday mornings from 7 AM - 10 AM (or sell-out) are a good bet. Check our website home page or call before you leave if you have a question of availability or a long way to drive. Picking is on a "first come" basis, so come early. We are open only two days a week to allow the berries to ripen between pickings.

If you bring children, please keep them closely in tow. NO unattended children! This is a real farm with both domestic and wild animals (such as wasps). Please remind the kids that the berries they pick are "keepers" and should not be thrown on the ground or at each other, but put in their bucket.

I also have a section on the "Recipes" page that tells how to pick ripe blackberries. Thanks.......

How to Dress

Early morning is the best time to pick blackberries. It is also the best time to encounter hungry mosquitos. Even though our berries are thornless and thorns are not an issue, long sleeve shirts offer protection from these pesky insects. A can of repellant would also be helpful.

Though we constantly treat for fire ants, scientist have not developed anything that prevents them from crossing the barb wire fences around our farm and joining in the berry picking. Closed-toe shoes are recommended along with a shot of repellant on the shoes and ankles. Please don't bring yourself or children with flip flops or sandals.

As for snakes, our blackberries are very erect and are not "bushy". The row middles are kept well manicured and mowed closely.
