You Pick 'Em

Pick your own thornless blackberries at our blackberry farm! We provide the picking buckets and a plastic bag to carry them home in. Nothing else is needed. Just bring yourself , family, and friends. We are located just north of Denton near Sanger, Texas and just a short jog north of Dallas/Ft. Worth. Come see us and provide your family a unique and healthy trip to the farm! Ice water and picnic tables with shade are provided for an enjoyable family outing! Be sure to check out the "How to Dress " section in the right column. We expect to have berries beginning around June 1 2009 and lasting until late July.

No reservations are needed and last minute information on fruit availability will be posted by me on this website by 6 PM the evening before the scheduled picking date and updated by 6 AM on Sat. mornings. The 2009 season is expected to begin June 1 and continue until late July. Picking dates are tentative for Tuesday evenings from 6-8:00 PM and Saturday mornings from 7 AM - 10 AM (or sell-out). Check our website home page or call before you leave if you have a question of availability or a long way to drive. Picking is on a "first come" basis, so come early.

If you bring children, please keep them closley in tow. Please remind them that berries they pick are "keepers" and should not be thrown on the ground or at each other, but put in the bucket. I have a section on the "Recipes" page that tells how to pick ripe blackberries. Thanks.......

How to Dress

Early morning is the best time to pick blackberries. It is also the best time to encounter hungry mosquitos. Even though our berries are thornless and thorns are not an issue, long sleeve shirts offer protection from these pesky insects. A can of repellant would also be helpful.

Even though we constantly treat for fire ants, scientist have not developed anything that prevents them from crossing the barb wire fences around our farm and joining in the berry picking. Closed-toe shoes are recommended along with a shot of repellant on the shoes and ankles. Please don't bring yourself or children with flip flops or sandals.

As for snakes, our blackberries are very erect and are not "bushy". The row middles are kept well manicured and mowed closely. I have not observed any snakes in the last four years.
